THE DRY GULCH DESPERADOS

UPDATE:  Next shoot is the First Saturday in February.  Winter hourse -- Sign-ups at 9:30 -- shooting starts at 10 am.

11 shooters had a grand time shooting 6 stages in nearly 60 degree weather and then eating hot Chili!  Everyone ended a winner as each shooter was in a separate category -- ok, we stretch the rules a bit and let Shalako be Classic Traditional -- don't ask, we don't know what that really is either.   ;-)  Cedar Creek Smith & Dry Gulch Rider said somethin' 'bout Dutch Oven cookin' for February so bring your appetites too!

Shalako Tucker and Pinto Annie will be in charge of "winter shoots" held the first Saturday of November 2005 (see above for December shoot!), January, February and March of 2006.  Shooters meeting for these "winter" shoots will be 9:30 am.

Underwear Day 2005 ended up a bit chilly, but 43 shooters braved the weather and had a great time!  Eleven RVs were on the range and fun was had by all.  Once again, the Dutch Oven cookers out did themselves with awesome ribs and yummy side dishes!  The meal was topped with Dutch Oven Apple Pie.

We are holding monthly matches in 2006, from April though October on the first Saturday of the month. We had a lot of interest in this sport and have attracted a lot of new people to the club. A table at the local gun show, thanks to Rimrock & Diamond Deb, should help increase our numbers this year! October 1, 2005 was our 3nd annual Underwear Day.

We look forward to shooting the first Saturday of each month.  Come on out and join us!

Trying to stay dry in March
Thanks Gene for the use of the tent.
  The name
Our first two Dry Gulch Desperado matches were shot in the pouring rain -- was that in 2000 or 2001? Many of the shooters in March and April of that year thought we had chosen the wrong name for our club. They didn't think there was anything "dry " about it. We still wonder sometimes during the winter months.

But better weather prevailed
and many of them returned on a monthly basis.

This is a great family sport
and we have had several junior shooters participating and they have a lot of fun. We would like to encourage anyone who is interested to come out and join us on the first Saturday of the month. If you don't have all the guns come out anyway, we are always willing to share what we have. We do ask that you bring only LEAD bullets. EYE AND EAR PROTECTION IS REQUIRED FOR EVERYONE (spectators and shooters).

Directions to the shootin' area:

From Main Street, Milton-Freewater, OR...

Turn East onto 9th between the Sub Shop & Shrilanga Spa.  Proceed across the river and wind up the hill to the cemetary then continue on 1 mile to where the road makes a  90 degree left -- don't go that way!  Instead, go into the farm drive straight ahead, thru the gate and then right.  Follow the gravel path out into the field and you'll find us!
